WHY SHOULD WE CHOOSE SI ?

Here are a few notes on why SBM should definitely consider using an implementation partner

  • Overall Program Mgmt Expertise and adherence to good delivery methodology. This is all we do for a living and we don’t cut corners (proper attention to documentation, testing etc.).

  • SI’s bring deep technology and industry expertise. If SMB just staffs Aug’s developers – they may not get this experience which does translate into the solution and overall ROI etc.c.).

  • Using an SI provides for a single throat to choke and accountability – If a client runs the program and just leverages developers – it can be (in some cases) harder to drive accountability. SI’s don’t have an allegiance to a particular business unit or boss, or application.

  • Quality and depth of deliverables are often better when leveraging an SI. We all know internal organizations may cut corners on things like design documentation etc. SI’s must submit formal, well written, and approved deliverables.

  • Good Program Mgmt from a good SI respects our client’s time (i.e. getting what we need, when we need it and then turning them loose). It’s significantly more efficient. We know exactly what questions to ask – we get what we need – and we go build it. 

  • SI’s often also bring broader application expertise with consultants that come from deep implementation backgrounds with big technologies like Oracle etc.

  • Bridging the gap between business and IT can often be much more effective by a 3rd objective party. We aren’t political and are not afraid to ask the tougher questions.

  • SI can often guide change management activities and secure more credibility when driving alignment between executives and/or business units. They are the 3rd party experts after all. 

Ultimately this comes down to risk. We would not attempt to re-tile our bathroom after watching a youtube video. We would call a tile expert. And in this case – getting it wrong can be very expensive and cost MORE in the end – as many times we find ourselves spending time undoing incorrect configuration (i.e. the time spent removing all that tile that was incorrectly laid).

A failed implementation means you are also paying for software that you cannot use. The ability to get timely and accurate quotes out the door plays too significant ROI metrics for the business. In addition, not configuring the proper use of the platform can affect other areas.
